Story

I am taking part in the crochet challenge in memory of my mum who unexpectedly died four years ago from this terrible infection. I want to support Sepsis UK in raising funds for research but also to help their important work towards ending preventable deaths.

Five people die with sepsis every hour in the UK. Not enough is known why our immune system that normally fights infections attacks the bodies organs and tissues.

A simple question “is this sepsis? “ to healthcare staff could save thousands of lives and that’s why this challenge is so important to me.

I will be crocheting every day during October and will post regular updates on how I am getting on and what I have made.

Any donations or help you can give would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
