Story
We would love our rivers to be wild and healthy and fit to swim in, but the reality is that they are polluted by sewage and runoff from farms, roads and urban areas. With no national public health monitoring of rivers, it is hard to know what the risks are when we use rivers for activities like swimming, paddling, rowing or angling.
With your help, we can change that.
The Rivers Trust want to introduce designated bathing waters for well-used rivers across the UK, so you can swim, paddle, catch and play without worrying about pollution. To do this, we need to create a comprehensive national monitoring programme, so we can provide better information for river users to understand when and where it is safest to enter the water. However, we need your support; without your donations, we simply cannot gather data on the scale necessary to see bathing water standards introduced.
