Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and also to raise awareness of 'Adult Congenital Heart Disease' and also the impact this may have on the lives of people living with it. Not to forget the crushing impact that the scars can have on your life emotionally & mentally. Let's face it scars are what make you AWSOME, so lets be proud of them and show them off for the world to see! As many of you are aware, The BHF hold a massive place within my heart (literally) and always will. I'd be so grateful and appreciative for your support along my journey doing this 2mile swim of Loch Lomond. Here's a little snippet of my story and why I chose The BHF.
In 2011 I suffered a TIA (mini stroke) which was caused by underlying congenital heart conditions (ASD & PAPVD) that had never picked up at birth. To correct these I had to undergo a 6-7 hour open heart surgery to help save my life. It was a long and hard recovery with every possible thing going wrong from a collapsed lung, fluid in the lungs, pneumonia, infection and a keloid scar. Then in 2013, I had to undergo a further surgery as my body had taken an allergic reaction to the sternum wires that kept my sternum in place, which meant another 10inch scar going in opposite directions. BUT I have fought back and showed heart disease who's THE BOSS and that it will NOT EVER stop me!
If it wasn't for the research & support of The BHF who knows what would have happened. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
