Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
I've signed up to take part in the Glasgow Women's 10k on 9th May 2010 along with my mum, Christine, and my friend Lynsay. We hope to make some money for Alzheimer Scotland while enjoying ourselves at the same time.
Seven years ago Sam Ross was diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease and subsequently had to give up the work he loves, as a motor mechanic. My mum has received a great deal of help and advice from Alzheimer Scotland, and has joined the committee of the recently formed "Alzheimer Scotland Helensburgh and District Branch" and is also a volunteer at the new Dementia Resource Centre in Helensburgh.
Alzheimer Scotland exists to help people with dementia and their carers. People with dementia may lose their sense of time, losing track of which day it is or of the time of day. They may lose track of where they are, and get lost even in a familiar place. They may fail to recognise people they know well.
Alzheimer Scotland provides information, support and a network of services and carers' support groups around Scotland. The Freephone 24 Hour Dementia Helpline, on 0808 808 3000 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by trained volunteers.
Alzheimer Scotland is dependent on voluntary fundraised income for around 20% of its income each year. Although local authorities and health boards pay for services such as day care and home support, money needs to be raised to maintain and expand their work helping people with dementia and their carers all over Scotland.
We hope to raise funds for this worthwhile cause and intend to use sponsor sheets for those who don't have access to a computer as well as online donations.
