I have never run a 10k before, I struggled to do a 5k two years ago, so this is a big challenge for me! I wanted to run this race to challenge myself and my resolve to train. I also wanted to do something to honour my father. Many of you who know me know that I had a very difficult and distant relationship with my father, but he came back into my life when I was expecting my first child. After years and years of longing for a father, I finally got my wish. It was difficult and painful getting to know him but just when we were starting to make some progress and 4 weeks after giving birth to my first child, my dad died from a sudden heart attack.

Due to this estranged relationship and a really dificult year following his death, in particular arranging a funeral for a man I hardly knew, I never felt that I was entitled to mourn his loss or grieve for the relationship that we could have finally had. I also never felt I could acknowledge hs loss and ask for support to honour the man he was.

After a lot of recent soul searching I feel that now is the time - don't ask me why?? My dad, Paul was a man who did lots of work for charity and helped a lot of people and families in his life and I want to honour that. So I am running this 10k in honour of him and for all the men out there who have their human flaws but are still decent people who do lots of good. In the end he finished his life in the same way mine started as 'my dad' and that is the thought that will keep me running around that 10k!
