Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Back in May Isobel and I took part in the London Moonwalk. That Saturday night my dad collapsed at home. He said the room was spinning, he felt sick and was sick. He'd been out for the day and assumed he'd eaten something that didn't agree with him. By the Tuesday he still wasn't any better. An ambulance was called and he was taken to A&E. There they diagnosed a stomach upset, water infection and vertigo. Due to him not eating and being sick his diabetes had also been affected. After spending the night there they sent him home with some tablets to take. He still couldn't stand as the room was spinning but we were hopeful that once the tablets started to work he'd feel lots better. When he still hadn't improved by Thursday my brother and sister decided to call for another ambulance. Something just wasn't 'right' about this. It was here we discovered he'd had a cerebellar stroke .Most probably on the Saturday night. Due to the fact this type of stroke doesn't 'present' in the typical way it had been missed. The cerebellum is at the back of the brain which affects your balance and movement. He wasn't paralysed. He could speak.  A year before my mother in law had also had a stroke and her symptoms were much more typical. We were all very confused. He was moved to the stroke unit at his local hospital who did a fantastic job of getting him well enough to eventually go home. This was followed up with physio therapy once he got there. He's still got a way to go to be better but am so proud of how hard he has fought to get where he is now.

I am hoping to raise funds for the stroke association after all the help, support and rehabilitation Fay and my dad were given and also awareness of this more unusual type of stroke.
