Story

UPDATE

We just want to thank you all for showing such support to Olivia and generosity to the charity for enabling her to raise this tremendous amount! You’re all incredible! THANK YOU!! 🙏🏼🌟❤️

Olivia has taken over from me now it seems on the desire to raise awareness and do fundraising challenges in memory of her Daddy, Karl who passed away from acute myeloid leukaemia in 2012 at the very young age of 36.

Olivia set her targets high last year with her climb of Ben Nevis, which she did amazingly with (but I annoyed her somewhat with my ‘motivational encouragement’ so I’m told!!) and this year she is climbing Snowdon which is the highest mountain in Wales with an elevation of 1085 meters/ 3559 feet above sea level…..I shall stay quieter this year! 😂

It takes on average 5-7 hours to climb up and down Snowdon (depending on what path you take) and she would like to do it as quick as she can to give herself a further challenge.

Around 120 people are diagnosed every day in the UK with blood cancer. Blood cancer is caused by changes in the DNA within blood cells and this causes them to start behaving abnormally. Thankfully they are not genetic faults that get passed on.

There are so many types of symptoms that people can have that it can be hard to recognise as in Karl’s situation, we were able to always put the symptoms down to other things.

Symptoms to be aware of are…unexplained weight loss, unexplained bruising or bleeding, fatigue, paleness, constant infections, breathlessness, pains in your bones or joints, lumps or swellings as well as unexplained fevers too.

Please don’t be like us and ignore symptoms or assume it’s something else, if you’re not happy with something, please get a blood test. 🙏🏻

Another way to help aside from donating money to fundraising is to become a blood donor or even better still, as a platelet donor. These unbelievable gifts that can take from as little as half an hour of your time,  will seriously either extend someone’s life or possibly even save their life.

Thank you so much for reading and for possibly sponsoring Olivia to enable her to raise funds for further research and developments in cures for blood cancers which is so close to our hearts for obvious reasons.
