Story
Following my first night out after our baby son was born, I was expressing some very full boobies and I found ‘the lump’. I had dismissed it as a blocked milk duct- however 2 weeks later it was still there. I had a cautionary tale of friend who was going through breast cancer treatment at this time. She had been told it was a blocked duct, but 4 months later was diagnosed with breast cancer. I told every medical professional this cautionary tale in the hope I would be taken seriously.
In January 2019, 4 weeks after my first doctors appointment and when our sons were 17 months and 4 months- I received my breast cancer diagnosis.
A little over a month later I had a lumpectomy and May 2019 I completed 7 rounds of chemotherapy followed by 20 rounds of radiotherapy. If you’re interested in seeing more of my pondering during treatment, (or wanna see my baldy bonce!) my Instagram @mrs_h_does is still going.
I am not a fit person! I would love to blame chemo steroids and lockdown for the extra pounds and limited activity- however I wasn’t really much fitter before hand! So this is going to be a super difficult challenge for me. But one that I hope will help get my fitness levels up as well as raise a bit of money for coppafeel.
CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to instil a new healthy behaviour that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to ensure breast cancer is diagnosed early and correctly by getting the nation to check their boobs/chest regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
