I was always incredibly close to my Non and she was the most amazing, kind and giving person you could ever meet! Sadly, she developed an under-recognised condition called Macular Degeneration which caused her to be partially sighted and almost blind. With the help and awareness of this Charity, Non had some injections directly into her eye to help stabilise her condition and stop her from going completely blind. As well as losing her sight, she also suffered from horrible visual disturbances - a common side effect of the disease. Both young and old can be affected by this and Macular Society helps to raise awareness and support sufferers.
