Story
No it’s not fake news, you read it right…I am hoping to run my first ever marathon!
As many of you will know I have fallen victim to the running bug. It’s not so long ago that I was breathlessly battling my way through Level 1 of Couch-to-5K and I certainly never thought I would even consider running a marathon, let alone attempting London! But I do love a challenge (and believe me, this will certainly be one!) so here we are.
Aside from the big tick in the lifetime bucket-list, this marathon mission also means I can help to raise money for a fantastic charity. And with so many worthwhile causes and fundraising ventures out there, I want to tell you why I have chosen to run for Wellbeing of Women.
They are a UK-based charity whose aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of women and babies by funding vital research and training. In recent years, their work has included areas such as preterm birth, pregnancy loss, fertility, female cancers, contraception, endometriosis and menopause…to name but a few! And despite how common these conditions and problems are, there is a comparative lack of funding to support the development of new tests and treatments.
Working in women’s health, and more recently in research, I have seen first-hand the positive difference that improvements in reproductive care can make to the lives of women and their families. But there is always more to do. Support and investment is needed, both in the UK and overseas, to ensure that this great work continues.
So that’s why I’m doing my very small bit for a very big cause, and am delighted to be running as part of the Wellbeing of Women marathon team. I am so incredibly grateful for your support in this little mission!
