WOW! I've made the exciting (and slightly terrifying) (crazy) decision to join my colleagues in raising funds for Alder Hey by hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.
I have soooo many reasons why I want to complete this trek but here are a couple -
- We will be taking part in many challenges and events over the next 12 months with our aim being to raise £80,000 for a new Family Room within Alder Heys new state of the art Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. These rooms enable parents and their families to be alongside their poorly new born babies, whilst they receive expert care with state-of-the-art innovative technology to monitor their condition. The funds raised will be used to fund life-changing facilities at Alder Hey.
- With their amazing work, Alder Hey is extremely close to all parents' hearts. Harry (my son) has spent a significant portion of his childhood in and out of children's hospitals. He's kept us on our toes with everything from anaphylaxis to a very very nasty pneumonia infection. Myself and my husband have spent many sleepless nights sat in a hospital chair putting our son's life in the hands of these truly amazing places. My heart aches for all the parents with poorly children, but it is also filled with admiration for the doctors and nurses who show up every day to work their magic.
- After suffering from a broken back for several years, I underwent major spine surgery six years ago. I was told that if I didn't have the surgery, I'd be in a wheelchair by the age of 30. This year marks my 30th birthday, and being able to complete this trek whilst raising money for such an amazing charity will be such a massive achievement.
Keep track of my progress through this page and my Facebook :)
