Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been offered an amazing opportunity to be able to run the Virgin London Marathon for RNIB - eeeek!!

This will not only be a massive personal challenge for me both mentally and physically, but it will make me incredibly proud to be able to fundraise for a such a worthy cause.

My grandad is 99 years old in July and continues to be able to live independently in a bungalow. He is losing his sight but he does not let this stop him. The RNIB have provided aids for him such as audio books which he relies on as he struggles to read and this was (and can still be) a passion of his, a magnifying aid, liquid level and a general support system. It is great that RNIB are now in partnership with Blind Veterans UK so that they can all carry on the brilliant work they do for those with visual impairments. My grandad was particularly pleased to be able to go on holiday to Llandudno in Wales on his own and thoroughly enjoyed himself and couldn’t wait to book again. From a social aspect, this was a brilliant boost for him.

My grandad is a very special man who is loved dearly. We sadly lost my grandma 11 years ago. They taught my sister and I so much.

I also have the privilege of knowing that my efforts would benefit a family close to me, the Bowers.  I have known Gabrielle since secondary school and whilst our journeys have taken us down different paths, we remain firm friends and our love for running brought us back together. I know from speaking to Gab, the impact that her husband Matthew’s diagnosis has had on them. I supported Gab whilst she trained for 2020 VLM, attended a fundraising event and was there to cheer her over the finish line when she ran the VLM virtually with her brother, Matt. It was so emotional and I wasn’t even running.

This year is going to be my year!!
