Story
In September Lucy and I are walking Hadrian's Wall path, 84 miles east to west over 5 days and are hoping to raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Care along the way.
Sadly, nearly everyone has their own personal cancer stories, current stats say one in two of us will develop cancer at some point, so anything that can be done to help research, treat, support and educate others about cancer can only be a good thing - this is what Macmillan do.
My own personal story; My family is no stranger to cancer, we definitely beat the odds! I was diagnosed BRCA1+, which is a gene mutation and means my chances of developing breast and ovarian cancer is greatly increased. Obviously not the best news, but I see myself as being one of the lucky ones, this knowledge has given me the option to do something about it, something many others don't have. I have already had preventative surgery and have some more in the pipeline (global pandemic pending!) which will reduce my chances to less than the 'normal' person. In my book prevention is better than cure!
So, we are unashamedly asking for you to dig deep and give whatever you can. All donations will go to Macmillan Cancer Care and will help
spur us on our walk, as I think it's fair to say neither of us are big walkers so it will definitely be a challenge! We hope that by doing the walk, we won’t only raise some cash for a great cause but also raise awareness of cancer and in particular womens cancers which can so easily go unnoticed.
I'm happy to talk about this, so if you want any more information or I can be of help to anyone, please get in touch.
Thank you and please share with your family & friends x
