Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, hopefully it will give you all the info you need to justify a donation to my cause!
In April 2012 I will run the London marathon in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
This will be my first attempt at a long distance running event and the result of 18 months of training stretching back to October 2010 when I ran a measured 3km (1.8m) for the first time…ever. Since then I have slowly increased the distance and, using some organised races as milestones along the way, am on target to reach the necessary distance in time for raceday. It hasn’t been without discomfort – if you ever see me on Mondays you will know that I am unable to walk after a long run on the weekend, and a fair amount of physio has been necessary to convince my knackered old body that it can do this. But in reality … compared to the distress experienced by the victims of this debilitating disease, I haven’t really suffered a thing, and like most of you - I am very lucky.
MS is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK, and affects more than two million more. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Almost twice as many women have MS than men. The MS Society offers hope for the future by investing millions in research, and help for today through our information, support and campaigning. Me and my family have personal experience of how difficult life is with MS and how devastating it consequences can be.
