So here we go! A long-term dream coming true...
As long as I can source a horse (@Josh), get down to 11st and pass a fitness test (@Phil), I will be riding in the British Horse Society charity race at Newbury on 4th November 2021!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and offers me the chance to race eight furlongs around Newbury racecourse.
And for some strange reason, I'd also love it if as many people would come to see me try and win, too!
I already have a huge amount of people to thank, not least Lucinda Sims for giving me the confidence to give this a go, Phil Page for helping me lose the weight required to even be able to ride and everyone at Gary Moore's, especially Josh, for giving me a chance to ride out every week.
I'm raising money for Changing Lives Through Horses, which aims to improve the lives of disengaged young people, regardless of their background, and give them the opportunity to develop skills that enable them to return to education and/or employment. It aims to celebrate the powerful impact that horses can have on our society and the unique development of life skills which can help young people for the rest of their lives. As someone who feels like horses changed their life for the better since 2019, I'm very proud to support them!
