I am Michael Tait, aged 52. I have decided to take the ferry from the Isle of Man to Heysham and then cycle the Way of the Roses from Morecambe to Bridlington and back again to Heysham which is about 360 miles.

I have toured in my youth. 1980 France 750 miles, 1981 France 1000 miles, 1985 Belgium, 1985 Oostende to Vienna 900 miles, 1986 Switzerland, 1987 Brittany, 1989 Lands End to John O'Groats 1000 miles, 1990 End to end New Zealand 1500 miles and Australia and French Polynesia.

I am staggered that over 3 billion people, which is almost half the world's population, live on less than $2.50 a day. It is time to change this and I believe that Oxfam are well placed to make a difference.

I bought myself a Giant Defy 5 bicycle on 28 September and have covered almost 500 miles in training. Unfortunately I am out of action for a few weeks as I caught my wheel in the tram tracks on the Douglas Promenade and was thrown heavily to the road. Instead of landing like a Ninja, I fell down like a sack of spanners. There is no internal bleeding but I might have cracked a rib and bruised my lung. Still the bike was fine !! Gave me time to update my Just Giving site.
