Story
In April 2011, I was injured in an offsite pre-season cricket net practice where I was hit on my temple by a cricket ball resulting in a catastrophic brain injury (ex-dura haematoma), which required emergency life saving surgery. The accident left me unable to move, speak or eat requiring 24hr a day care.
In total, I spent 8 months in various hospitals including that of a specialist neuro rehabilitation unit, The Oxford Centre for Enablement. With their specialist help, strong sense of will, determination and the love and support of my family and friends I am well on my way to what Consultants say is a miraculous recovery.
Since returning home in Nov 2011, I have gone from strength to strength and am becoming more independent daily. I still have a long way to go with my recovery but I'm working hard towards my goals.
Wicken Cricket Club (my club where I was Captain for 5 years until this accident) organised a similar fun day last year to raise funds for me and my family – an Ipad, an instrument which became vital in helping me to communicate with my wife and children and a suitable car to bring me home for visits.
The support from the community and local businesses has been over whelming and I thank everyone who has been involved and who supported me through the most difficult and challenging times. It shows how people can unite and pull together – you have all made a real a difference to me.
I now want to make a difference for The Oxford Centre for Enablement and Wicken Cricket Club and to enable me to do this; I would like to ask for your support.
Please bring your friends and family along to our family fun day and six team Cricket match. There will be a raffle, bric a brac, childrens activities, hot food and a bar.
Any donations made on this site will go directly to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
Together we can make a difference, so please dig deep and donate now.
