Story
Summary: I am completing 60 Miles on foot, on what would have been my Dad's 60th birthday (13th of July, 2020) to raise money for Marie Curie Hospice, Holme Towers, Penarth.
At the beginning of 2020 my Dad, Michael Porter, was diagnosed with cancer of the neck. Unfortunately, a few months later, after a course of radiotherapy he was told there was nothing more that could be done. Shortly after, he was transferred to the Marie Curie hospice in Penarth. Here, he was given the best care we could have asked for. After just over a month, he lost his battle and passed away on the 29th of September 2020. During his last weeks, I witnessed the amazing work the hospice does daily, and I will be forever thankful for the way they looked after my dad, making him as comfortable as possible. Looking back on last year, I have decided I wanted to give something back to the hospice in Penarth. Therefore, I am completing 60 miles on foot, on what would have been my Dad's 60th birthday in the hope of raising some money for the hospice, in order to say thank you. Below is a brief description of the work the hospice does, explaining how important donations are to the hospice.
Our nurses, doctors, therapists and social workers provide expert care and support both to the people staying with us at the hospice, and in the local community. Each day at the hospice is special. By getting to know people as individuals, we help them do what is important to them whether thats getting out into the hospice garden to enjoy the views across the sea, having a beloved pet visit come to visit or sharing precious moments with their loved ones.We need to raise £8,311 per day to run the hospice, so every penny counts. Thank you for helping to make sure more people with a terminal illness in Cardiff and the Vale get the care and support they need.
