Story
Whilst out walking during lockdown myself and Dan had a discussion
about how we would love to do a hike and have both been wanting to do the
National 3 Peaks challenge for a long time. We decided we should give it a go
and within hours Kyle and Henry had joined the team.
For those who don’t know about the National 3 Peaks - the
challenge is to climb the 3 peaks with 24 hours. We will be starting at Ben
Nevis, followed by Scafell Pike and then finishing with a climb up Snowdon. If
that wasn’t a challenge itself, we also decided that this would include us
taking turns driving between each climb. We will start our first climb at
4am on Saturday the 10th of July and hopefully complete all 3 peaks
by 4am on Sunday the 11th.
We have decided that as we are doing this challenge we would use
it as an opportunity to raise some money for charity which has effected my
family.
My father in law has been battling with Multiple Myeloma since
diagnosis in November 2018. Myeloma is a blood cancer which currently cannot be
cured but is treatable via different routes. Those who suffer with Myeloma were
classed as highly clinically vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic which has
meant shielding. Despite not being able to have much face-to-face contact with
his family and particularly his grandchildren, my father in laws treatment has
continued throughout the pandemic.
Throughout his treatment, the care has been exceptional so it
seems fitting to show some appreciation by giving something back to Myeloma UK
who support those diagnosed with this cancer and sponsor a lot of the research
into new treatments.
