Since the late 1990s I have been involved with Spitalfields Music.  Each year we hold two festivals - one in the summer and one at Christmas.  During the rest of the year we run a learning and participation programme with communities in Tower Hamlets that uses music in exciting and innovative ways to inspire and transform audiences and participants, for example:

* Musical Rumpus is an interactive opera for 0 - 2.5 year olds

* 'Takeover' festivals led by primary aged children exploring their schools with music and performance

* Working with residents and staff of a care home in Poplar, Living Arts explored the creativity of older people with dementia through music, dance and art

To make these kinds of things happen we constantly have to fund raise and we have done this successfully since 1976.  To celebrate our fortieth birthday we are having a 20 km sponsored walk around the borough where we work.
