Story
I am aiming to raise some money and awareness towards men's mental health and the stigma around 'manning up' (aka be a man)! Also to create a haven for conversation and a resolutive act. Within the last year and the year before alone, there must have been a millennial shift with significance for young men as more young men with bright futures lost their battles and coping aptitude to their mental delusion thus resulting to suicide as a means of escape. According to the data available, mental health issue is claiming more young men’s life like never before. That coupled with the number of crime-out deaths of young people in London = catastrophe. 17.2 deaths per 100,000 to be precise which is statistically significant given that for women, it is just 4. Stats reference-https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/suicidesintheunitedkingdom/2018registrations.
This is not just a run, not just a means to raise money but to help young men have a view, a voice, a portal and a place where they feel like they can voice their worries, concerns and not feel judged or deems weak by expressing their feelings whatever it may be. Runwithpurposelondon is helping a lot of young men so providing them with the needed avenue. Check out their page https://www.runwithpurposeldn.com
I am running the London Vitality half in March and The London Marathon 2020 in April to raise this awareness as I do not believe a lot of people are aware. I am running with the Royal Free Charity. I have done a number of runs with them and they are just fantastic. The funds raised will be used to train active first Aiders who are trained listener by Royal Free Charity, some of the funds would also go to RWP as well to continue the great works that they do such as continue the meet up, bigger space for meet up, and promoting the good cause. The aim of the Royal Free Charity is to support patients every step of the way to make their experience the best it can be. For each patient that need is different. The Charity provides support through trained volunteers, additional equipment, improved environments and patient based research. The Royal Free London hospital sites include Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals and includes specialist centres for rare diseases as well as general medical care.
