St Mary’s Hospice provides specialised supportive and palliative care for people with life-shortening conditions throughout South Cumbria. Only 18% of our funding comes from the NHS, the rest comes from our supporters. All our services are provided free to patients and their families.

Story

On August 17th I will be starting a walk of the whole length of the
Oxford Canal from Oxford city centre to Coventry Canal Basin -a
distance of 88 miles. I'm aiming to walk around 8 miles a day over 10 days.

I am trying to raise funds for St. Marys Hospice as a way of thanking them for the loving, professional care they provided for my beloved wife Sheila during the last few weeks of her life.

I have been a life time enthusiast of our brilliant canal system, and
the Oxford holds a special interest for me. It was one of the first
to be completed in 1790, and follows a meandering course through the beautiful Oxfordshire and Warwickshire countryside.

I have cruised it twice and now I want to walk it.

St. Mary's, like all hospices is a wonderful institution devoted to palliative care, making the last days of our loved ones lives as peaceful and comfortable as possible. They rely for 80% of their funding from charities.

My courageous wife, Sheila spent the last four weeks of her life there
after battling Parkinson's Disease for 17 harrowing years.

Any donations you feel able to give would be much appreciated and every penny will go to St. Mary's.

Thank you,

Mike
