Story
I have been training and planning to swim across the English channel since August 2018 but had been dreaming of doing it since I was a teenager. It is one of the hardest long distance swims in the world. it is 21 miles wide but due to string tides you end up swimming much further, the water is between 15 and 18 degree C and you can only wear budgy smugglers! You also have to cross 2 of the busiest shipping lanes in the world coming face to face with gigantic cargo ships!
When Corona Virus hit the UK and lock-down was enforced I thought it was the end of my dream for a few years at least. I was gutted but knew there were much more important things going on in the world so I decided to turn this setback into an opportunity.
Why not make the challenge even tougher to help raise money for all the dedicated and caring individuals stepping up to defend our country from this threat.
All I had to do was not leave home and do all my training there which is problematic when you are training to swim 23 miles. To raise awareness for the #stayhome movement I will vow to do all my training at home and even when lock-down is lifted will not visit a pool or gym for 6 months before my swim. I will need to do some long distance sea swims over the summer holidays in order to qualify but all other training will be done at home.
