Story

Why did you decide to fundraise?

There is 2 reasons for this silly event.

First – I always do Movember and as my sister is getting married this November, I had to think laterally for ways to raise awareness and money whilst keeping my upper lip free from a disgusting ginger growth for the wedding.

Second  - This will be my second fundraising physical event I’ve attempted and the feeling of combining fitness (which is a passion of mine) with raising money for medical research brings me a double endorphin rush. It’s hard to explain so imagine when you wake after a very deep long sleep feeling super alert, fresh, cleared headed and inspired to achieve. That’s the buzz I felt once I entered in the cycle previously. It’s only natural that I should come up with my own event and choose a charity that I feel the most strongly about.

What are you doing to raise money?

Myself and 4 other like-minded masochistic buddies will be completing a 3km truck tire flip challenge with a twist. Yes, we ALL do or have done the dreaded ‘C’ word (CrossFit). This is not a WOD strictly speaking but an endurance challenge that will require physical determination, teamwork and problem solving.

It will take place in between the black and red bins at CrossFit Bolds home turf. The tyre needs to be flipped end over end for 3km . Only one person can flip the tire at a time. This person must flip the tyre TEN times with one push up after each single flip. They peel to the rear and negotiate various weighted awkward objects. FOUR persons will co-ordinate this until they in-turn are needed to flip the tire.

Why Cancer Research UK?

I have lost family and friends to this terrible ailment, I’ve also had family and friends survive their fight with cancer. They have all been inspirational in their fight, value of actual presence, and show real appreciation for each second, minute and hour of the day. This is my turn to lead from the front and set an example others to follow. I’ve always donated money to cancer research be it growing a filthy ginger moustache, bought pink ribbons, eaten home baked goods, dined at the world’s largest morning tea parties. I aim to surpass my previous donations raised.

What does people support mean to you?

Positivity breeds positivity and if people supported this it would mean the world to me. I’m doing this for others so they may not need to suffer what my friends and family have been through. We can all relate to the horrible trauma this causes and I know people will respond to this accordingly. Plus you can all feel the satisfaction of helping in your own small way. You may not feel like you can make a huge difference by yourself but together we can. I, with my unlucky friends are doing the hard work. You have the easy job. I dare you to feel the buzz I feel, spread positivity and laugh at us along the way.
