Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Upton Victory Hall is 100 years old, and as part of the celebrations I've set myself the target of cycling unsupported from the Cenotaph, Whitehall to Upton, Wirral. If I make it I'll have cycled in the region of 240 miles in two days. This is substantially further than I've cycled previously in such a short time, and the last time I got anywhere near this was in 1979!
I've chosen both Upton Victory Hall (UVH) and the Royal British Legion (RBL) as beneficiaries, and I intend to share sponsorship receipts between the two organisations. To aid this distribution, please donate to whichever of my two justgiving pages has the lowest receipts.
UVH was established one hundred years ago to act as a living memorial to those who lost their lives during the "Great War". Thanks to the work of so many volunteers the charity continues to fulfill its original aims.
RBL is internationally recognised for the support it provides to former members of the services and their families.
On a personal note both my father and grandfather served their country during the first and second world wars respectively. Though both lived to see much better times, this was only after seeing the true horror of war first hand. My father served in both the Royal Navy, and in the latter part of WW2 The Army. My grandfather volunteered and Joined The Kings Regiment at the age of 17, and was in the trenches at the Battle of The Somme.
Both men always spoke of and supported the good work of the Legion.
