Story
In September 2023 I will be taking part in a 10,000 ft tandem skydive for the BEAT Eating Disorder Big Jump. BEAT is a charity very close to my heart and jumping for them is an easy decision as they have impacted my life tremendously.
After months of struggling during 2020; In January 2021 I was diagnosed with Anorexia and my journey to recovery began.
To say the next two years were a struggle would be an understatement; however BEAT’s platforms not only allowed me to understand that there were thousands of people going through a similar thing as me but also taught me that an eating disorder is an illness not a choice. It was also the BEAT live web-chat and support systems that helped me to get a referral to begin my therapy in the first place.
Recovery however was a choice… so skip to January 2023 after two of the most difficult years of my life i finished my third course of therapy and have finally began to feel free again.
BEAT allows anyone who is suffering or worried about someone suffering from an eating disorder have access to the support that they need. They make those first steps to recovery not such a scary thing.
How your donations will help:
- £14 pays for a trained helpline advisor for an hour to provide support guidance and advise to someone who needs it.
- £25 pays for information and posters to be displayed in schools and university’s. Not only does this educate more people on eating disorders but helps young people suffering to realise they are not alone.
- £76 funds the supervision of five or more peer support volunteers to help families cope.
-£108 provides a parent whose child is ill with regular peer support sessions for a month.
Any donation - big or small will help someone to have access to the help and support they need, just like I did.
