In the summer of 2022, I will be heading to northern Rwanda with ActionAid to help build a much needed classroom block for children attending a primary school. There are over 2000 pupils in the primary school and there is not enough space to accommodate them. Classrooms are severely overcrowded, forcing some classes to be taught outside under the trees. This makes it very difficult for the children to concentrate and learn, resulting in poor performance and dropouts, further exacerbating the cycle of poverty. Missing school can have severe consequences on a child's education and future but also can make children more vulnerable to experiencing violence. 

I believe that education is a universal and fundamental human right. Education is life-changing, life-affirming and transformational. All children deserve the best chance of an education. 

ActionAid is an international humanitarian charity that is committed to ending violence against women and girls living in poverty. Rwanda is a place that has called out to my soul for a very long time, so I am very excited to finally make my way there, and especially to be of service in some small way.
