We support children's intensive care to help critically ill children & parents

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you are aware, Chloe was seriously ill in December with multi-organ failure due to Group A streptococcus and septicaemia.  She was rushed to Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary's Hospital in London where she remained for nearly two weeks before being moved onto the general ward.  While she was in PICU, she was treated by a truly amazing team of consultants, doctors and nurses.  This team not only cared for Chloe on a 24 hour basis but had time to explain procedures to us, listen to all our worries and concerns, and allow us to do as much as we were able to care for her.

Much of life-saving equipment that was used on Chloe (and one consultant did say that Chloe’s treatment pushed the boundaries of all cutting-edge technology), was donated to PICU by the charity COSMIC (Children of St Mary's Intensive Care).  This charity relies totally on donations and fundraising to provide such life-saving equipment to treat the hundreds of children like Chloe who are seriously ill in PICU at St Mary’s Hospital.  It also funds vital research to ensure that these children in PICU get the best possible treatment.

While I was staring at the walls in the Family Room in PICU, I saw an invitation to raise money for COSMIC by jumping out of an aeroplane – and I promised myself that when Chloe was better, I would do a tandem skydive to raise money for this charity that did so much for my daughter.

So on Sunday 29th September 2010, Louise, Amelia and I will be standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10000ft, the noise of the engine and the wind ringing in our ears.  We will be leaning forwards out of that doorway and letting go – diving into the clouds, freefalling through the air at 120mph, praying that the instructor knows when and how to pull the parachute!

We would be so grateful if you could sponsor us for completing this skydive as obviously we are keen to raise as much money as possible for COSMIC - we are aiming to raise at least £5000.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you so much for your generous donations, we appreciate it hugely. Please return to this sight at anytime to keep in touch with how we are doing to reach our target and how we did on 29th September - beginning to feel a little  sick about it!

Much love to you all,

Mhairi/Mouse/Mhouse xx
