Story
I recently had a scare, where Doctors found a lesion in my colon, so big that a colonoscopy was not able to be performed and needed a specialist. As you can imagine the "C" word (cancer) was mentioned as one of the possible causes so we needed to act fast on investigating which is where we found that thankfully the lesion was benign. They suggested surgery straight away as the lesion was so large and could end up causing damage if left.
One possible cause was Endometriosis which I have suffered with for years now but unfortunately, Endometriosis can not be identified by any scan so surgery is the only option. When doctors performed the surgery, they could see straight away that it was Endometriosis. It had spread so much and my left ovary was now attached to my colon. They detached the ovary and put it back in the correct place and had to removed 17cm of my colon. I am also currently waiting on more surgery to make sure all endometriosis is removed from any other organs it may have attached it's self to.
I am raising awareness of this horrible disease due to finding out that currently, it takes 8 years for women in the UK to be diagnosed with Endometriosis which is awful. They are told that it is normal to have such painful periods, when having pain during sex they are told to try a different position (had that one myself before being diagnosed) and many more issues brushed under the carpet of its just part of being a woman. I would really appreciate it if you could help me raise more and awareness for Endometriosis UK. I will be walking 10,000 steps every morning for the next month.
