Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September I will be doing four separate half marathons in one month! These are:

1. Great North Run (Newcastle to South Shields) - Sunday 8th September
2. Great Bristol Run - Sunday 15th September
3. Great East Run (Ipswich) - Sunday 22nd September.
4. Great Scottish Run (Glasgow) - Sunday 29th September.

I am doing these four runs in aid of "Bowel Cancer UK". Following a routine GP checkup late last year, my Dad was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer on January 21st. The news came as a complete shock to myself and the family.

Three months later, following a series of tests, scans and assessments, we were pleased to discover the cancer hadn't spread but a major operation was required.

Dad had the operation at the beginning of May to remove the tumour which thankfully was a complete success. He is now recovering at home.

We had the amazing news on May 14th that the cancer had been completely removed and no further treatment will be required.

I am in no doubt that the work Bowel Cancer UK do to fund targeted research and to promote early assessment has resulted in Dad being diagnosed and treated before things could of got much more serious. Their really informative website also helped keep my family up to speed with the processes involved with Dad's treatment.

Now I want to give something back for the work they have done for Dad and the rest of my family and continue to do for other families that are in a similar situation.

£5 could help to print lifesaving leaflets that increase awareness of the signs of bowel cancer.

£25 could help to drive vital improvements to the screening programme so that thousands more people have the opportunity of an early diagnosis that Dad did.

£200 could help train specialist nurses in the latest advances in treatment and care.

Please donate what you can, either through me directly or online here. Dad was one of the lucky ones. Let's help to save others too.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Training updates will be posted here up to the first event on September 8th. I'll be doing a few different 10k events in Woolacombe, Barnstaple and York leading up to September to keep me in shape.

Thanks everyone!
