Story
We are so fortunate in Northern Ireland to have access to fantastic schools, but realise this is not the same all over the world. We are taking part in a sponsored walk to support Charlene's Project, a project Methodist College first raised funds for during 2022.
Charlene's Project has had the vision for several years of a local secondary school for the children of the 8 neighbouring primary schools in western Uganda where they have been working. The children had no hope of local secondary education and so children were not completing primary school.Phase 1 of Charlene Secondary School is now complete. Classrooms, laboratories, teacher accommodation has been finished to a high quality. Solar electric, solar pumped water and WIFI has been connected - this is all very unusual in Uganda, and the compound is very clean and safe for the students who are already attending. The Dining Hall and kitchens are being built and other buildings will be completed in the second phase of the building project. We are looking forward to seeing the difference Charlene Secondary will make in this community.
