Story
WE DID IT!!!
24 hours, 25 miles walked, over 3,000 feet climbed, 1350 milesdriven, 3 mountains, 2 foot of snow, 60 pies and pasties eaten, 219 sore toes, 22 sore feet and legs, 11 chaffed bums and, once finished, nearly 200 pints of beer consumed.
It was tough, very tough and at times we we doubted we could make it but we did and we made it in time.
Thanks to you all for supporting us and the charity and for helping make the difference and rest assured we really did earn it!
Background
We are a group of 15 current and retired rugby players who are members of Merton RFC based in the Morden area and aside from rolling around in mud with 29 other dirty men, showering, drinking, touring and signing together we realised that we didn't do too much else.
It was promptly decided that we simply had to set ourselves a challenge and try to raise funds to give something back to the local community which we have regularly terrorised on a Friday and Saturday night for the last 40 years (Chris, Jack and Tom).
We took our inspiration from a fellow ex player who has spent the last couple of years running marathons, moonwalking up Kilimanjaro as well as scaling the 3 peaks and felt that if we could achieve a fraction of what he has and raise money for a deserving cause then the door to heaven may be ajar once more.
We have chosen "Shooting Star Chase" who are a childrens hospice service caring for local families with a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition as they work locally to our club between the areas of Croydon, Guildford and Kingston (and further afield).
