Story
In the lockdown of 2020 a number of members of Merton Cricket Club set up a chat group where we would share running tips and motivation. Having that group spirit was great in a time when we were all separated.
With lockdown set to continue in 2021 one of our members, Sir James of Prebble, decided we should step up our efforts for 2021 and set us the group target of running around the moon. That is 10,921 km in a year. A call was sent out to the rest of the Merton CC players and community and some new members joined the running group. The group is a mix of all abilities from those starting out on the couch to 5k challenge to more regular runners.
We are now over 9000kms. Keep an eye on our progress in the spreadsheet link below:

Everybody has their own story of struggles through the lockdown and even before. Our mental health has been put to the test like never before with the loss of those social groups we all rely on so much. The running group has brought us together and allowed us to share our personal experiences of mental health struggles or those of family and friends. Having a place to chat and find support has been invaluable and given us all that extra motivation to keep pounding the streets around Merton.
A charity some of us know or have used or had friends and family use, Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We have an ambitious target of £1092.10, a 10p for each kilometre around the moon. Any level of contribution will be greatly appreciated just as any level of kilometres run in our group is appreciated by the other members

Happily in 2021 we were allowed to play cricket together once again and all the kilometers we had put in already meant we were a fitter, better, and closer team. Saving those fours and turning the ones into two's. If you fancy a game of cricket with that all important cricket tea to chat in between check out our team website:
