Story
Owen Merrett and Anna Merritt (no relation!) are competing in a head to head handicap (due to girl versus boy) virtual hammer competition, via Zoom, in order to raise money for Wiltshire Air ambulance. Both athletes have competed for Wiltshire for over 3 years and have won medals at the ESAA National Championships for the county. This year they were both aiming to represent Wiltshire at the ESAA Championships, but due to COVID-19, the competition has sadly been cancelled. Athletics tracks remain closed due to lockdown but like many athletes around the country both Owen and Anna have been creative in finding ways of continuing their training as best they can, within the lockdown guidelines.
They have decided to take advantage of being in the fortunate position of still being able to throw, within lockdown guidelines, even though one is throwing off paving slabs and the other off a sheet of plywood.
Anna and Owen are supporting the Wiltshire Air Ambulance because even during this challenging time, emergencies still happen and HEMS crews are still having to put themselves at risk to help us.
This event will be held via Zoom on the 22/05/20 at 6pm.
Any amount given is greatly appreciated. If you wish to watch the competition live, please email Anna (annalmerritt02@gmail.com) or Owen (owen.merrett@talktalk.net) to receive the Zoom link.
Thank you very much.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a charity that provides an essential Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) across Wiltshire and surrounding counties. It needs to raise £3.75m a year to continue saving lives, but is not directly funded by the Government and receives no National Lottery funding, so relies on generous public donations.
