Story
Team Sue are taking part in the Thames Path 100k Challenge walking from Putney Bridge to Henley in less then 24 hours. We have 3 battled hardened walkers doing the 100k (63 miles) from start to finish with teams of 2 joining them on each 25k stretch to help keep their minds motivated and their feet stomping!
Some of you may be thinking who is Sue..... Sue was a wife, mum, sister, nanna and a good friend to many when she was formally diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 51. Her ability to function as a normal human slowly and cruelly declined and this meant her husband gave up work to care for her. After several years caring for Sue, she became so poorly she went into a specialist care home for dementia sufferers. By this time Sue could not recognise or communicate with her family or friends and could not do the simple things we all take for granted. After 12 years of enduring this awful, heartbreaking and wicked illness Sue passed away aged 62. So walking 100k is our way to honour Sue Herbert's memory and to raise as much money as possible to help fund research into a prevention or cure so eventually nobody has to suffer the effects of Alzheimer's.
This disease has devastating effects on not only the sufferer but also the family.
Over 850,000 people in the UK are currently suffering from some form of dementia and it is estimated that by 2025 over 1 million people will be. The sad fact is that there is no known prevention or cure and the disease is irreversible, so your support and sponsorship will go a long way to help fund the fight to beat dementia.
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online. No matter how big or how small the sponsorship is, it is greatly appreciated.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
