Story

Thanks so much for visiting our MELROSE FALCONS DODDIE CUP 500 JustGiving page. Any help you can give is massively appreciated by us all.

Carl Hogg (Melrose & Scotland), Dean Ryan (Newcastle Falcons & England), Duncan Hodge (Watsonians & Scotland) and Craig Joiner ( Melrose, Leicester & Scotland) are cycling from Murrayfield to Cardiff on behalf of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The Doddie Cup 500 is an epic challenge and involves a relay cycle ride from Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff in 48 hoursAs former international rugby players from both sides of the Border and as former playing colleagues of Doddie we feel inspired to help in a little way.

We are self-funding the trip, so all your generous donations will go in full, straight to the Doddie Weir foundation. As former team mates it’s an honour and a privilege to cycle with Doddie’s logo on our backs. His courage and fight has been inspiring and astounding.

About the foundation:

Our friend and former playing colleague Doddie Weir revealed in June 2017 he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease.

The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was established by Doddie and the Trustees in response to his frustration at the lack of options given to MND suffers – no effective treatment, no access to meaningful clinical trials and no hope. They could have given our funds to existing charities and bodies to invest on their behalf, but they wanted to be able to make their own decisions and direct funds to where they felt they could have the biggest impact.

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation’s vision is a world free of MND and a critical element of realising this ambition is being able to fund vital research into the disease.

My Name'5 Doddie Foundation has ploughed £6.5m into MND research in the last 4 years, and we hope that a breakthrough in treatment will be just round the corner, in time for Doddie, and to help the countless future victims of MND.
