Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the 2012 London Marathon for the Military Patients at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The charity supports the UK’s military patients who are treated at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.  The hospital charity provides those added extras that make a huge difference to the lives of military patients and their families

In January 2012, the charity launched their plans to build a ‘Fisher House’

Fisher House will be a ‘home from home’ where wounded troops can spend time away from the ward with their families, friends and colleagues. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is the primary receiving unit for all injured British military personnel and so families can travel many miles to be with their loved one. The Fisher House will be a ‘home from home’ for families to stay in at a very difficult and stressful time.

The Charity relies on the generous support of individuals and companies.

I’ve run many half marathons & this will be my third full marathon, but you can never under estimate how far 26.2 miles is.  Yes it will hurt, but I cannot even begin to come close to the pain those members of our armed forces & their families go through when they have been injured when fighting for our country.  For every soldier that we hear that has tragically lost their life, another 3 or 4 have been injured.

‘It’s about all our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. they are our heroes’
