Story
Hi everyone!
On the 3rd October 2021 I ran the London Marathon for Kidney Care UK!!
This charity holds a very special place in my heart and my family’s.
My dad was diagnosed with kidney failure, and in 2014 he underwent a kidney transplant to save his life. Before, during and after the transplant, Kidney Care UK provided my dad with an incredible support network and help whenever he needed it.
On the 16th February this year, after spending much of 2020 isolating under the Government guidelines, my dad sadly passed away from Covid-19 - leaving us completely heartbroken.
My dad lived 7 years with his transplant and in those 7 years my dad’s passion for supporting the Renal Unit at the Northern General Hospital, where he had his transplant and who are funded by Kidney Care UK, only grew. The staff at the Unit became his friends and, at times, like a second family. He would always pop in and speak to everyone, from the doctors and nurses to the kidney support team and receptionists. His appointments would only be an hour or so long, but we could always guarantee that my dad would spend all day there chatting away.
Kidney Care UK are the leading kidney patient support charity providing advice, support and financial assistance to thousands of people, like my dad and our family, every year. They rely on funding to provide much needed support to kidney patients and their families, so no one faces kidney disease alone.
It would mean so much if you could support my crazy decision to run this – even the smallest donation will mean to the world to me and will help this charity massively!
I ran the 26.2 miles with tears in my eyes but every one of those miles was for my dad!
Thanks for your support with my London Marathon JustGiving challenge! My page donations will be sent direct to the charity in a fast and secure way. Its efficient, saves time and cuts costs for the charity. Let's do this!
