Story
Jack was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect when he was 8 weeks old ❤️
At 4 weeks old he was taken via ambulance to A&E with increased work of breathing and recession. Although an x-ray showed some slight changes, all his other observations were fine. It was thought to be reflux related so we went home.
4 weeks later his breathing was still the same and something didn’t sit right with us so we decided to take him back to hospital to get checked again. He was checked by 3 different doctors and it was the 3rd who heard a murmur. Another x-ray and an ECHO were done and that’s when they found that Jack had two holes in his heart, a PFO and a VSD.
His next scan will show if they have shrunk or if he will need further treatment, but for now, his twice weekly visits from our amazing Neonatal Outreach team and daily medications are helping him thrive.
Approximately 1 in 125 babies in the UK are born with a heart problem, with less than half of them being picked up during pregnancy.
If we hadn’t gone with our instinct it may not have been detected for much longer & could have been a lot more serious.
I have decided to do the 125 challenge and walk 125 miles in October to raise money for Tiny Tickers, a charity that help improve the early detection and care of babies with serious heart conditions. If you can spare any money big or small, it will go a long way 🥰
