Story

Hi everyone and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

How many steps does it take you to get water from a tap in your house?  20 or 30 steps maybe?  Sadly, for many women and young girls across the world, it can take around 10,000 steps or more a day (about 5 miles) to reach water which may or may not be ‘clean’.

In these countries, the collection of water is a daily priority and as something that is culturally seen as a female job, sending young girls to school is often sacrificed. The walk for water is also not without its dangers as there is the risk of sexual attacks as well as attacks from wild animals.

To help, Care International launched the ‘Walk In Her Shoes’ campaign asking people to walk 10,000 steps every day for one week in aid of women living in poverty.  I have signed up to this pledge but have decided to walk 10,000 steps every day during 2017.

10,000 steps a day is an achievable target but it is not without its inconvenience to daily life and so I have to admit that I did debate whether I could do this for a whole year.  I made up my mind when I thought.... 'these women and children do not have a choice’!

If everyone who read this donated even just £1 and passed it on to everyone they knew, we could easily reach the £10,000 target. You can of course donate more if you are able to.  Perhaps you could make a regular donation of £1 a  week or a month? The spirit of this pledge is to pass it on, to keep a positive chain of action alive and to spread awareness. Please help me to do this.

Whatever you chose to do or not do after reading this, please send this campaign all of the positive energy you can muster.  Make a wish that we raise lots of money to end the poverty facing these women and their families.

Thank you so much.

Independently of Care International, I have set up a facebook page for women called Monday Movement. At the core of ‘Walk In Her Shoes’ is women walking together in solidarity. The main aim of this group will be to walk 10,000 steps every Monday and donate £1 each time we do.  We will support each other, post in pictures, make new friends, look after our health and most importantly, help support women living in poverty.

If this appeals to you and you want 2017 to be the year you did good and felt good,  please click the link and join:

or you can officially join the campaign through Care International and the ‘Walk In Her Shoes’ challenge.
