When I turned 40 I set myself a challenge to try new things, set new personal goals and make new friends (still keeping all the old ones obviously!). Since turning 40 I haven't achieved everything on my list but so far I have:
- Eaten an oyster (never to be repeated)
- Joined an all ladies aunt sally team (managed to move up 150 places so far this season so I am improving and even if not, the giggles every week is definitely worth braving the rain and cold)
- Started volunteering with a Rainbows group every week (having been in girl guiding as a child I love seeing how much the girls get out of rainbows and the friendships they form with new groups)
- Started helping out with the school fundraising team (what a great group of people - I honestly don't think I have ever come across so much positivity before - in fact it was a bit daunting at first)
- Booked in for the tasting menu at the Fat Duck (so excited - definitely one off my bucket list!)
- I am going rally driving soon (hoping I beat Bob in my times so I can gloat forever)
- I am booked onto an art class (probably only so my family can laugh at my results)
- I am booked onto a cooking course (probably no hope for me but it is worth a try)
I wanted to achieve 15 completely new things one of which was to challenge myself physically so I am going to be taking part in and completing (fingers crossed) two 50km walks in September. I am doing the Thames Path with a group from the school and then the London Marathon Night walk with my walking partner in crime Lynda.
I also plan to run 10k at some point in the future (I am not a runner so I am working my way up to that challenge!)
I still have 5 other things to achieve so as well as donating please could you suggest something else I could take on over the next year.
I am raising money for the transformation of Launton School field. It is a great school where Mia has blossomed, come out of her shell and grown in confidence and skills. The school desperately needs some space where the children can get outside all year round and be active. With so much technology around (I am a huge fan of technology but it has its time and place) it is too easy to stay indoors and communicate remotely. Children are recommended to have a minimum of 60 minutes exercise every day and this field project will go a long way to bringing the children together and giving them a safe place to play, learn and get active.
