Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I will be taking part in the Nepal Himalaya Trek for Alder Hey Children's Charity between 4th - 13th October 2024.
As a previous counsellor within the Alder Centre at Alder Hey Hospital I have seen first hand the difference charity funds make to service users and I would love to ensure funds raised benefit both Alder Hey and users of the Alder Centre to continue provision of extra support for bereaved families. https://www.alderhey.nhs.uk/locations/alder-centre/
At the Alder Centre they provide bereavement care and education for anyone affected by the death of a child of any age. Currently, they offer
*Counselling support
*Holistic Therapies for service users
*Volunteer supported activities
*Therapeutic breaks
*Befriending
*The opportunity to reflect and remember through a number of events including our annual candle service at Liverpool Cathedral, Light up a life service and our book of remembrance
*Training for those seeking professional development to help those affected by the death of a child.
Since commencing my fundraising, the tragic events of the 29th September 2023 involving both West Kirby Grammar and Calday grammar school communities occurred. As a member of the local community I have been deeply affected by the response and acutely aware of the number of pupils (and teachers, parents and wider community) who have been affected by this event. I am also aware of the care provided by Alder Hey hospital during the days events alongside ongoing care for those who need it. All funds raised for Alder Hey Charity will go towards helping the trust continue to provide excellent care, research and innovation.
For every £1 received 87p is spent directly on benefiting patients, 12p is spent to generate future funds and 1p is spent on support, governance and raising awareness of the charity and hospital.
This challenge takes place over 10 days and requires trekking to the summit of Poon Hill standing at a peak of 3,210m. This is a personal challenge both physically and mentally having previously suffered with chronic pain conditions and having never travelled without family. However, I am excited to push myself to my limits and benefit a great cause at the same time.
Several family members and friends are helping to contribute to my fundraising by crocheting up a storm, running walking tours and baking all the best cakes-keep your eye out for upcoming events!
Your help to continue the fantastic work provided at Alder Hey is very much appreciated!
