Story
Amazing Amaya!
Yes, she is my daughter and I have a biased opinion, but she IS amazing, and she would not be here if it were not for some other rather amazing people.
Those who know our family, will know why I am doing this. Amaya spent the first 8 months of her life in the QMC; 3 months in neonatal, 3 months in PICU and 2 months on the respiratory ward. After that she was regularly in and out with respiratory challenges. Even this year Amaya has been admitted to the QMC with respiratory distress.
If you saw the BBC Hospital programme in 2018 you will have seen just how hard her battle has been. You will have also seen the immense skills, knowledge and dedication of the paediatric intensive care team who saved her life many times and became a huge part of ours.
I am 50 this month and whilst in my 50's I have decided to attempt 50 different challenges and raise money with some of those events for all of the different sectors of health, care and education that have been involved with both Amaya and Tahlia. The list is long! However, we know that small steps lead to great things. We helped to raise money for the neonatal unit several years ago and now we wish to do the same for PICU.
As my mum says, 'Do these things whilst your bones allow you to!!' Thanks mum!!
