Devon Freewheelers EVS, also known as the Blood Bikes provides a free out of hours courier service to the NHS across Devon. The service is provided mainly on motorbikes, ridden by volunteers. The Blood Bikes carry whole blood, blood and other medical samples, medication, emergency medical equipment, tissue samples for cross matching before transplant operations and donor breast milk for premature babies.The charity receives no funding from the NHS for this service and relies on public donations to be able to continue to operate.
Melissa will be running the ‘The Ham & Lyme’ ultra Marathon, for this charity and also Devon air ambulance. joined by Tina Helen and Wendy! The route is the stunning Liberty Trail, which runs from Ham Hill Country Park in Somerset to Lyme Regis in Dorset, taking in some fabulous locations along the way, including the enchanting Wayford Woods, the breathtaking panoramas from Lambert's Castle (if the mist stays away!) and a number of pretty villages, before descending to wonderful Lyme Regis with its famous Cobb.
I, Melanie will be cycling an ultra distance at Lyme Regis on the same day, as due to an injury I’m unable to run. Joined by Tony .
Nigel Charnock, from Exeter, was fatally injured following the collision at 11.32am on Sunday, July 15th Nigel was taking part in the Motorcycle Ride Out, an event which sees hundreds of bikers ride from Trago Mills in Newton Abbot and Evans Transport in Bideford to Teignmouth in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
