Story
In honor of Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day, and with The Duchess of Sussex and her growing baby girl in mind, we’ve organized this fundraiser to raise money for Every Mother Counts, an organization that focuses on maternal health services, education, and pushing for legislation that better addresses the maternal mortality crisis in the United States and around the world.
More than 800 women die every day from preventable complications during pregnancy or childbirth, according to the World Health Organization, and nearly 60% occur in just 10 countries. The maternal mortality rate for black women and women of color, especially, is 3x that of white women. Every Mother Counts not only highlights this disparity, but works to combat it with the grants they give and the legislation they support.
The work that Every Mother Counts carries out in Guatemala, Bangladesh, Haiti, India, Tanzania, and the United States to provide services to expecting mothers through their partnerships with existing community organizations is critical, having invested more than $17 million in grants that have impacted the lives of nearly a million people since 2010:
- 371,210 mothers receiving skilled reproductive or maternity care.
- 479,218 infants and children receiving services.
- 104,339 mothers transported to a health facility to receive care.
As an organization supported by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's foundation, Archewell, to mark International Women's Day, please join us in supporting this organization to help move us closer to a world where no pregnancy leads to preventable complications or death.
