Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Meg's Story: Myself and Cassie have decided to sign up to run the Cardiff Half Marathon in loving memory of our grandparents. Alzheimers and Dementia are both very close to my heart as I watched my grandparents suffer with these diseases for many years. In 2015 my nan sadly lost her 6 year battle with vascular dementia and in 2018 my grandad unfortunately passed away as a result of Alzheimers. Seeing this awful disease take away both my grandparents personalities and independence had a massive effect on myself and my family. It truly opened my eyes to the effects of this disease and as a result has motivated me to run The Cardiff Half Marathon for such a great cause. This is an amazing charity so any donations however big or small would be greatly appreciated. “We remember their love, when they can no longer remember”.

Cassie's Story: After several years of seeing my grandparents slowly deteriorate through the effects of dementia, it has given me the inspiration to do something to help Alzheimer's Society. This year me and meg have decided to run the Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of our grandparents and are hoping to raise as much money as possible for this charity. Having lost two of my grandparents in 2016 and 2017 respectively, after seeing them both suffer with dementia in their final few years, it has given me an insight into how this terrible disease effects the person suffering from it and the friends and family surrounding them. I have just finished my first year in University studying Adult Nursing. Being surrounded by people effected by this disease on a daily basis constantly reminds me of how important it is to raise awareness of how much it has a negative effect on one's life, therefore by taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon I hope to run for all those effected, as well as my grandparents.
