Story

RAFFLE HAS BEEN DRAWN - ANY FURTHER DONATIONS WILL NOT GET TICKETS

The story behind it all - At the age of 2 Megan went for months with allergy symptoms, swelling in her face and body, trips to the GP to be referred for more tests, and an ambulance trip to hospital as her lips were so swollen before she got a diagnosed - luckily a consultant at the hospital recognised Megan's symptoms and test results confirmed her kidneys were leaking protein and she has Nephrotic Syndrome. Finally she could receive the treatment she desperately needed. We had never heard of Nephrotic Syndrome until that day and didn't realise then how it would change Megan's life. She is currently doing very well and from the 6th January her hospital team have began to wean off her daily medication which she has been on for over 3 years. This is risky as it could trigger a relapse but it could also show that she is in full remission and does not need to take any medication at all. A risk that they think is worth taking to avoid the 3 monthly blood tests and her second kidney biopsy.

Although a little biased we do believe Megan is a remarkable little girl who takes it all in her stride. She has grown to love this fundraiser we do each year and now at the age of 7 she is keen to get really involved.

IN TOTAL WE RAISED £506 FOR NEST - thanks so much!

Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) affects approx 10,000 people in the UK, majority are children, with no known cause or cure. The current treatment is non-specific and highly toxic, with many potentially life-threatening complications. NeST funds Bristol Children's Hospital in researching NS to find a cure.
