Emerging Influencers is a six week leadership programme for 17-23 year olds. This community of young adults is raising money for Tearfund's life saving work in helping people to continue to lift themselves out of poverty.

Story

Hello!! I am currently taking part in a 6-week leadership programme for young adults with Tearfund and have been developing a theological understanding of justice and how we can envision a more just world for everyone as the world reopens after Coronavirus. As part of this course, we are tasked with raising money for Tearfund's life saving work around the world.l

Over the past couple of weeks I have been learning about the spirituality and importance of fundraising, amongst many other topics. As a Christian, I see fundraising and donating as an act of worship, despite it not being an activity unique to Christians as charities such as Tearfund use the money raised for God's glory. Our donations can help to bring justice and transformation in many people's lives by helping to restore the world as God intended it and assisting people to lift themselves out of poverty.

Currently the city of Barranquilla hosts more than 15,000 Venezuelan families who have taken refuge in temporary accommodation. Most of them depend on being able to go out to work in order to put food on the table, but now they can no longer leave their houses due to an imposed lockdown to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus. Thankfully, relief agencies such as Tearfund's church partners have delivered food baskets to 600 families with young children. They will continue to reach out to help the most vulnerable, including the elderly and women and children who are at risk of violence and abuse when confined to their homes. The full impact of Coronavirus on communities in poverty is still unknown.

With my team, I am holding a Drive-In Concert as a fundraiser and would love for you to join us on the 8th of August for a night of music, both secular and worship. We suggest a £10 donation per car, but feel to give as you feel lead. I understand that this period has been difficult, and some of us may be struggling financially so don't feel obligated to give. If you feel you can't donate but you are a believer, please pray for us as we plan, the event itself, and how the money raised will be used. Please specify in your donation if you will join us at the concert or if you are simply making a donation.

With just over 50 young people taking part in this course, we're aiming to reach a collective target of £50,000. This size of donation could supply 16,667 families with a month's supply of hygiene products to protect themselves against the Coronavirus, or 3,333 children in refugee camps 3 sessions a week learning and taking art therapy sessions, or 12,500 people who have experienced war with emotional and social well being support, or 3,049 families with hygiene training and food support for 3 months. Thank you so much for your support!
