Story

For our first half marathon together myself and my dad have set ourselves a challenge by taking part in running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 3rd April 2022 in support of U.K. sepsis trust.

Every year sepsis kills at least 48,000 people and in November 2016 unfortunately one of those people was my grandad Val.

My grandad had a short battle against sepsis and after a week of being in intensive care the battle was too much.

Before I lost my grandad to sepsis it wasn’t a condition I was very familiar with, I soon learnt that this condition is still misunderstood by the medical world in the way it takes control of the whole body and causes multi organ failure.

5 years on and the battle against sepsis is still ongoing and people are still losing their lives to it. Most people either knew someone who has died of sepsis or know someone whose been affected by it.

We are running to raise awareness and help prevent anymore lives being lost to sepsis.

Any donations you can make are greatly appreciated and will help towards our target of £700!

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
