A little bit about myself...
My name is Megan Lena Hutchinson, I am 20 years old and currently am working for Mr Harris at Milton Harris Racing based in Wiltshire. I started at a riding school when I was 10 years of age and have worked hard to be where I am now.
I went to an equine college after finishing secondary school, called Hadlow College, in which I successfully completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma In Horse Management with a Distinction. This was an exciting experience that included riding and competing, learning stud yard work, basic horse management to run a yard and so much more. I even had the opportunity of going to Amanda Perrett's Racing and Linda Jewell Racing for work experience which made me fall in love with the sport even more.
I have been in the horse racing industry full time now for roughly almost 3 years and have experienced amazing opportunities such as - riding on the gallops everyday, regular schooling and working the horses, a race course gallop and going to the races regularly... I thoroughly enjoy my job (especially the riding) and decided that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in this charity race and with the fantastic support from everyone, I decided why not and give it a go!
I am delighted that I am one of the chosen people to get into the race and am proud to be supporting such an amazing charity!
For more information about this charity please read below and have a look at their website. www.racingwelfare.co.uk.
Racing Welfare is a registered charity supporting the workforce of British horseracing. We offer professional guidance and practical help to the stud, stable and racecourse staff whose dedication is vital for the well-being of racing. Our work aims to help people, from recruitment to retirement, to thrive in day to day life and through a range of life’s challenges.
In 2020, Racing Welfare saw a huge increase in those coming to the charity for support. By the end of the year, we supported over 4,500 individuals, marking an increase of 80% increase on the numbers from 2019. The fallout of Covid-19 continues to impact many people across the horse racing industry and the charity's services remain in high demand.
Racing Welfare relies almost exclusively on donations. This Wincanton Race Day is specifically aimed at increasing awareness of the wide breadth of services that the charity provides and at raising essential funds to help us support the people who made your day at the races possible.
Thank you for the support & good luck to all my competitors.
